Are you SIRI-ous? Can Speech Recognition Really Do That?
Kathleen Samulski, Assistive Technology Consultant, Wayne Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC)
It seems like more and more people are using speech recognition in their everyday life. Is speech recognition the miracle technology for our struggling learners? How can we use this assistive technology to support our learners and help with assessment? Is there anything available for free? This session will give an overview of speech recognition and highlight software, apps, and devices with which students can access speech recognition. We will discuss ways to evaluate a student for potential use of speech recognition and how to support a student’s access to and use of speech recognition. This session will also highlight a wide variety of ways in which students and educators can use speech recognition to improve performance. Participants will be provided with a list of paid and free resources to access speech recognition for education.
